The Cao Son Loop, a purer Sapa (6 days / 5 nights)

Visit a wild and untouched region of the Mountains. It’s very similar to Sapa, but out of the main tourism paths. You will meet various people of different ethnic minorities, you will visit two authentic markets and trek in beautiful sceneries. This is the way to truly experience the Mountains of the North!

Hanoi - Lao Cai - Lung Khau Nhinh - Cao Son - Muong Lum - Cao Son - Muong Khuong - Lao Cai - Ha noi

Day 01 (Wed): Ha Noi - Lao Cai

In the evening, you will take the night train heading to Lao Cai, a town located just next to the Chinese border.  The train leaves at 9:15pm. 

OVERNIGHT SPENT ABOARD THE TRAIN

Day 02 (Thu): Lao Cai - Lung Khau Nhinh - Cao Son

Arrival very early morning at the Lao Cai train station.  Your guide and your driver will grett you there.  After breakfast in Lao Cai, you will take the road towards the East in a wild region, out of the beaten paths.  You will make a first stop in Lung Khau Nhinh to visit it’s Saturday market.  Though relatively small, this market has a truly unique feel to it.  You will see people from various ethnic minorities gather to exchange merchandises and news!  After visiting the market, you will continue the road to Cao Son, a little village of the H’mong people located at the top of the mountains.  After checking-in to your hotel and freshening up, you will do a lovely walk (3h) to reach the top of a mountain where a long time ago, the French had set up an observation point.  From there, you will have a beautiful panoramic view of Lao Cai province.  Head back to your hotel in the end of the afternoon. 

 OVERNIGHT SPENT IN CAO SON 

Day 03 (Fri): Cao Son - Muong Lum

After the breakfast at the hotel, you will start a lovely trek to explore the region around Cao Son.  You will walk 11km across rice paddies and spectacular mountains and hills to reach the small village of Muong Lum .  Once you get there, you will meet a local Red Dzao family and you will spend the rest of the day in their company. 

OVERNIGHT SPENT IN MUONG LUM (HOMESTAY) 

Day 04 (Sat): Muong Lum - Cao Son

After breakfast with the people of Muong Lum, you will have some free time before trekking back to Cao Son, by a different road than the one you followed on the way there.  You will arrive in Cao Son in the afternoon.  After checking-in to the hotel, you will have free time till dinner time.

OVERNIGHT SPENT IN CAO SON  

Day 05 (Sun): Cao Son - Muong Khuong - Lao Cai

After breakfast at the hotel, you will take the road to Muong Khuong to visit the Sunday market.  Much larger than the one in Lung Khau Nhinh, you will see people from all sorts of ethnic minorities mingle together.  After lunch, you will take the road back to Lao Cai.  En route, you will make stops to visit little minorities’ villages.  Once arrived in Lao Cai, you will go and visit the Den Mau temple, located just on the Chinese border.  After visiting the temple, you will have dinner in a local restaurant.  Afterwards, you will head to the train station to board the night train back to Hanoi (departure at 8:30pm).

Day 06 (Mon): Hanoi

Arrival very early at the Hanoi train station (around 5am).  A car will be there to pick you up and drive you to theaddress of your choice in the Old Quarter.
